Informing Ideas

AC1 Informing Ideas

 Stress and Mental Health

Stress is our body's response to pressures from a life event. Some common features include experiencing something new or unexpected, something that threatens your feelings and having little control of a situation. There can be times when stress excessive and too much to deal with. This situation can make us go into a state of 'fight or flight'. Rather than help us push through this pressure can make us feel overwhelmed and unable to cope.

Target Audience

The target audience is my community so the city that I live in. To meet the needs of the target audience a mental health group could open where people struggling can surround themselves with positive people who can give them tips on how to try and live a better less stressful life. This would fit in to the social grade D which is the working class. There aren't any issues with the target audience. Sunderland depression rates higher than anywhere else in ...www.chrysaliscourses.ac.uk › news › sunderland-depressi.... This link shows that the mental health rates in Sunderland are higher than anywhere else in the country. This shows that the charity is really needed by the people who are really struggling with their mental health.

Client

The charity is called happy foundations. Their idea is to help people with their mental health and stress. They encourage people to volunteer to help people with mental health issues. What you have to do is make a print advert, TV advert to help people in the community with their mental health and stress.

Example of charity advert

Primary research

This advert is shows that the family is clearly struggling due to the mother having breast cancer. The highlight of the advert is the young daughter who is trying to make her mother smile at the end and hopefully take her mind of the pain that the family are going through watching her suffer. At the end of the advert the company left their aspirations by saying their hopes for the future of cancer patients. They also left a picture of their website so people can volunteer to help them achieve what they are setting out to do by 2050 and also help people who are suffering smile like the little girl in the advert.

The print advert shows the words donation today which highlights that the kids that the charity is helping are in need of help as soon as possible. It also shows direct address by saying to stop him falling through the cracks.  The bottom of the advert shows the details of the company which created the print advert that you can contact if you are either seeking help are wanting to help out people who are struggling. The advert uses music to ensure that the audience feels sympathetic for the person suffering in this advert. It helps create a sad situation even more upsetting which would make the audience get in touch with the company in order to help out.

Secondary research

I have researched into what makes people smile and many people in the community take pride in the little things like helping others when they need it. They also like getting helped out by others. This shows that people care and that makes others happy about that. This helps me with my charity advert as I now know what to base my idea around when making my print advert. Also looking at existing products has helped in making my print advert as they are successful due to the fact that it has reached out to a lot of people. This will also help as many people are suffering with mental health more than ever due to the lockdown. One company that helps with mental health is a company called newby core. They help out people who are suffering with mental health either by over the phone or through online messaging.

Overall I now understand what I need to put on my poster to appeal to the target audience. I need to add little messages across the screen to show the sympathy that is being created. I may also add a picture of my own or a certain background. The background will leave more room for certain messages but the picture might appeal to an audience more than the solid background.

AC2 Problem Solving

Pre Production

Flat Plan

I have created a flat plan on paper which is an outline of what my print advert will look like.  The image will take up the majority of the poster as that is the centre piece and it is what will stand out to the audience and it will be what creates sympathy. The masthead will be a message that will explain the purpose of the print advert. The two cover lines will consist of statistics and how the audience will be able to help out and get involved. One of the key points in existing charity adverts is the fact that they are emotional so the masthead and image must be appealing.

The whole need for pre production is to have developed your ideas so you know how to present and design your finished product. This helps you to come up with an understanding or brief idea of what the finished product will look like.

AC4 Professional Practice

Risk Assessment

I have completed the risk assessment which goes through the the health and safety of shooting an advert. It also says who will get a copy of the the print and TV advert and also when the advert will be fully finished.

Health and safety

When shooting I need to watch out for the wires which lead to the lights as they are easy to trip over. Also the lights get hot so a health and safety issue is to not touch the hot part until it is turned off.

Ideas before final advert

In order for me to create the final product I had to look back at a lot of existing products which do a really good job at creating sympathy for the reader. However the whole point of the project is to make people smile. So for the final product I need to create a print advert which grabs the audience attention by creating sympathy but also adding an element of happiness which would help people smile.

Final Project

For my final product I was constantly referring back to my analysis of existing products. I was always noticing the sympathy that those existing products use to attract the attention of the audience. I then figured that I had to create sympathy but make the audience smile at the same time. I needed to do this in order to meet the brief. I added this by by informing the audience that there is still hope despite the sad and sympathetic message that I had already created.

AC3 Technical skill

Media Materials and techniques

Before I took the final photo, I thought I was with a set design which was a Plain background with Little messages that were around the corners of the print advert.  I thought that the short and snappy messages around the side would impact the audience and hook them instantly. I thought the background was the best that I could do due to the fact that I was working from home.

After I made this it began to rain outside. I decided that it would be a good idea to take a picture then add it to my print advert. This would make the advert more appealing as it is a lot more attractive to the eye than a plain black screen. I also moved the the writing up towards the top of the screen so the audience can see the photo more clear.

Actual Final Product

After the feedback I've received I've decided that in order to meet the criteria I needed to change the image. So I decided to choose this one and add text above it which mentions the client.

This was another design which was suggested.

AC5 Communication

Evaluation

Throughout this campaign I have developed many skills. Some of them being my analysis of existing products and giving feedback. The analysis of existing products has helped me massively to create my final product. I learned what charity adverts generally use to attract their audience. This helped me out as I could steal their ideas for my print advert. As well as giving away feedback to my classmates I also got a lot of feedback when I pitched my idea. Some of the feedback included that my work was very good however I needed to make it more appealing to the audience. This was similar to the feedback that I had given out so it seemed that we all had to work on the same thing. Another thing which was pointed out was that if it was possible I should use a picture to helps attract the audience a bit more.
